FAILURE _ A KEY TO SUCCESS

       FAILURE-A KEY TO SUCCESS

-   Bairavi Sundaram.

On February 1990, was born a young boy, for a good couple. But soon after his birth, his father passed away. He grew older and was about to join a college, but due to his family’s condition and lack of finance, he was not admitted in the college.

His mother said to him, “Kindly wait for a year; I will make you learn, my dear son.” But he was not happy, he wanted to learn, get a good job and settle in life. This thought is quite natural for everyone. So he decided to work, earn enough money and get admitted in a college. “But who will give me a job? What sort of work will I get? Am I able to work?” All these questions squeezed his mind like anything. “But once decided is decided, I will never stop until I earn money,” he said to himself and started searching for  a suitable job.

In a roadside hotel, he saw a board that read, “servants needed.” He approached the owner to join as a servant in the hotel. The owner, who was the cook of the hotel, asked his name and he replied, “Jackie, but people would call me Jack.” He was appointed and he was the only servant in that hotel.

As the days passed, the hotel did not receive any kind of profit or income. There were no visitors and it was about to be a month for Jack as a servant in that hotel. He expected his maiden salary. The owner, regretting to have not paid him, said that the financial condition was not good. Jack agreed, because he did see how the owner had suffered. By this time, he realised that life has many faces. If we have our face happy then it would be easy to face the faces of life. So, he did not feel unhappy, whereas he wanted to do something to make the small roadside hotel popular, as his life in the form of education depended only from the

income that he would earn from this hotel. He got an idea, which he said to his owner. His idea was a one plus one offer for the food that is quite common. The owner agreed and they started implementing their idea, but there was no improvement.

One day he met an old man, who was laying in front of their hotel. The owner showed all his bad moods and started yelling at the old man. But Jack did not do so. He went near him, got his blessings and provided breakfast for him. But the owner did not like this, and he said “If you do like this then every beggar would ask for food, where will we go if we provide food free of cost? Avoid doing this, Jack,” he warned him.

Of course, Jack showed humanity and kindness towards the old man, but the real reason was the motive to make the hotel popular. The old man, after his breakfast in the hotel, conveyed that news to everyone. The hotel started providing food for beggars free of cost.

After a week, beggars decided to pay something in return. It can be in cash or in kind. This made their hotel popular and Jack and his owner were interviewed by the leading TV channels about their success, as well as their humanity that they provided food for beggars without expecting anything in return.

Finally, they had developed their hotel and appointed some beggars who were willing to work as servants. Jack had completed his bachelor’s degree with distant learning, passing with flying colours, and was promoted as an accountant in the same hotel. Jack’s dream was fulfilled, and thus made his mother proud and happy.
